  • great suv, engineers need to work on noise

Engine noise is not up to other suv choices, wind noise unacceptable at speeds over 50 mph. great safety features. Takes a lot of time to understand how they all work.
  • Incredible value. Premium interior. Fun.

A fun, comfortable, great car. Interior has quality materials, tactile, and attractive. Driver and passenger room beats much larger SUVs. Ride is plush. Performance fine for all except sports car addicts. I look forward to every drive of this value-packed vehicle.
  • Good in town and highway, best small off road SUV

If you drive pavement, city drive and interstates the acceleration is fine for most drivers. If you are an aggressive driver or a passive driver that needs a quick punch to cause or get you out of trouble you may ought to look at the Mazda CX-5 or a VW Tiguan or spring for the turbo in the touring up grade. Driver’s that city drive and want safety, space and comfort might look more to the CRV and Rav 4. None of these will stand up to what this or any other Forester will give you in dirt, rough pavement, snow, ice, mud or off road (not rock crawling) driving. Subaru’s AWD and traction settings can’t be touched by other vehicles in the small SUV class. The 2010 I put 183,000 miles on before getting hit in the rear and totaling it was an absolute blast to drive the engine was small but the CVT gave you up shift and down shift control to rock through the curves and pass traffic. They have taken a fun off road SUV and tamed it down for a broader appeal to city drivers to sell more cars. IT will still go where you want to go much more comfortably but with out as much ability to control how drive hard you drive it. The 2020 Forester drives more like I probably should drive in truth but not like I would like to drive it hard sometimes. It’s adequate but more gentlemanly high low range downshifting insures getting high revs in a lower range of the CVT and the smallish HP engine is just not going to happen. If you brake through the curves you will never understand what I am talking about. If you do understand the you will know the fun factor down shifting into and accelerating out of curves has been slightly engineered Out of the Forester. If If you are willing to pay more for turbo and get the lower gas milage that goes with it then you may not face this disappointment. If you live in northern or mountain climates the Subaru Forester is your SUV. The AWD and drive train controls are almost unbelievable in their capacity to go places you want to and some shouldn’t and still come through. Heavy rain, snow, ice, rough dirt or pavement roads and they occasional off road(not rock crawling) are no problem to this vehicle and you will love it. If you are going to drive in town and a reasonable safe driver not in need of bail out or don’t want road rage acceleration you will still love the safety features in the impact design and technology for avoiding collisions. It is much quieter than previous Foresters, visibility is the best of any SUV I have ever driven. The milage for me so far has been in the 30-32 MPG range probably 40%town 40% HWY and 20%dirt and off road. Minor complaints: the console arm rest is smaller and no longer moves forward. The fuel saving engine shut off is a nice concept but is quirky. If you are stopping in a curved intersection it may or may not shut off. If you are stopping briefly going straight it will shut off. I have stopped about 6 hours of time and saved one gallon of fuel. I can’t help but wonder if the savings of $2.00 of fuel is worth the wear and tear on the engine and starter. They will tell you you can turn it off they may not tell you you have to turn it off every time you enter the car. If you are in constant traffic jams or setting through lights maybe it is a better feature. If you drive narrow roads with no shoulders the lane departure warning will go off like a high score game on a pain ball machine. You can turn it off. Minor negatives aside the Subaru Forester is the car I probably need and I do love it, even if I would like more HP and a sport mode for mountains and curves.
